Jharkhand police nab gangster who opened fire on patrol team, arms recovered

Ranchi – Jharkhand Police have arrested a 29-year-old criminal accused of opening fire on a police patrol party in Ranchi’s Khalari area, leaving a constable seriously injured, officials said on Tuesday.

The late-night attack took place around midnight on September 21 near the Bombay Hotel in Purni Rai locality, when assailants on a white Apache bike without a number plate fired indiscriminately at patrolling officers. Head Constable Ramsharekh Sharma suffered a bullet injury to his leg.

Acting swiftly, Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan formed a special team under the Rural SP. Following raids, police arrested Rahul Das of Baleri village, Chatra district, from near Pahi forest on the Rai–Budhmu road.

A country-made pistol, 10 cartridges, a Maruti Baleno, and the Apache bike used in the assault were recovered. Police said Rahul Das, recently released from Sherghati jail in Bihar, is linked to an interstate gang involved in robberies and dacoities across Jharkhand and Bihar.

Efforts are on to track down his accomplices.
