Armed Robbers Flee with Over Rs 1 Crore in Daring HDFC Bank Heist in Deoghar

Deoghar — In a sensational daylight robbery, armed criminals looted over ?1 crore in cash and jewellery from an HDFC Bank branch on Rajbari Road in Madhupur, Deoghar district, on Monday.

According to police, the robbery took place between 12:45 p.m. and 1 p.m., shocking the busy Madhupur Bazaar area. Eyewitnesses said two robbers disguised in helmets and burqas entered first, followed by four more armed accomplices. Brandishing pistols, they terrorised employees and customers, seizing mobile phones and valuables to prevent calls for help.

The gang spent nearly 20 minutes inside the bank, assaulting those who resisted, filling bags with cash, gold coins, and jewellery, and even managing to open lockers. Before fleeing, they shut the bank’s main shutter from the outside.

Police, led by SP Kumar Saurabh, quickly reached the scene and launched a manhunt. A special investigation team has been formed, and CCTV footage from the bank and nearby areas is being examined. Officials estimate the loot exceeds ?1 crore.

The daring heist has raised concerns about bank security in the state.
