Ranchi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged statewide protests in Jharkhand on Thursday, pressing for a CBI investigation into the alleged fake encounter of tribal leader Surya Hansda and voicing opposition to the proposed RIMS-II hospital project in Ranchi.
In Ranchi, state BJP president Babulal Marandi spearheaded a protest march from District School to the Deputy Commissioner’s office via Shaheed Chowk and Kachhari Road. Senior leaders, including MLA C.P. Singh and Metropolitan President Varun Sahu, joined Marandi along with hundreds of workers.
Marandi accused the Godda police of staging Hansda’s death. “He was tortured with electric shocks and killed. His body was later placed to look like an encounter victim. The absence of blood at the site proves the murder happened elsewhere. Only a CBI probe can uncover the truth,” he alleged.
Calling Hansda a respected social worker and tribal leader who had contested four assembly polls, Marandi highlighted his support for over 250 underprivileged tribal children by providing education, food, and housing.
The BJP also objected to the RIMS-II Medical College project at Nagdi, Ranchi, alleging the government was forcibly acquiring fertile farmland despite the availability of barren land. “The Hemant Soren government claims to protect tribal rights but is the biggest violator,” Marandi said.
Protests were also staged in other districts. Acting state president Dr. Ravindra Kumar led demonstrations in Sariya (Giridih), while Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu headed a sit-in at Angada block in Ranchi, where workers shouted slogans against the Soren government.
