Ranchi -

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday announced that the state’s prestigious Netarhat Residential School will admit girls from the next academic session, ending its boys-only tradition since its establishment in 1954.

Nestled in the forests of Latehar district, the school is often called the “Doon School of Jharkhand” and has produced more than 500 civil servants, including IAS and IPS officers.

Soren further revealed plans to set up three new schools on the Netarhat model, expanding opportunities for high-quality residential education.

At the same event, the CM distributed appointment letters to 975 newly recruited postgraduate trained teachers, assistant professors, and lab assistants, and also honoured the top performers of the 2025 matriculation and intermediate exams (JAC, CBSE, and ICSE).

Each topper was gifted a 125cc scooter, laptop, mobile phone, and a ?3 lakh cheque to support their higher studies.

Reiterating his government’s focus on education, Soren said: “We want government schools to match private schools in quality, ensuring every child gets equal access to resources and opportunities.” He also highlighted the Guruji Credit Card Scheme (loans up to ?15 lakh without collateral) and a 100% overseas scholarship scheme.

The event also marked the launch of the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar Yojana and the Jharkhand E-Shiksha Mahotsav to promote innovation, technology, and cleanliness in schools.
