Ranchi Shocked: Mother, Daughter Die After Truck Crushes Scooter; Angry Residents Protest

Ranchi - A horrifying road accident in Ranchi on Friday claimed the lives of a woman and her school-going daughter after a speeding truck ran over their scooter near Joda Bridge in the Kanke area.

The victims were identified as Rashmi Kashyap, a nurse at Rinpas, and her daughter. Rashmi, a resident of Chudi Tola, was on her way to drop the child at school when tragedy struck. Her husband is currently working in Africa.

According to witnesses, a cement-laden truck hit the scooter from behind at high speed, crushing both victims to death on the spot. The driver fled, abandoning the vehicle. Police later seized the truck and initiated a search to arrest him.

The accident triggered outrage among residents, who blocked Kanke Road for several hours, demanding tighter regulation of heavy vehicle movement and strict action against rash driving. “The family will receive assistance as per rules, and efforts are on to pacify the protesters,” said DSP Amar Kumar Pandey, adding that heavy police deployment has been made to prevent further unrest.

Locals alleged that unchecked movement of heavy trucks on Kanke Road has led to repeated fatal mishaps, urging authorities to impose restrictions during school hours.
