17 Jharkhand Workers Rescued from Cameroon Return Home After MEA Intervention

Ranchi — Seventeen migrant workers from Jharkhand, stranded in Cameroon for months due to unpaid wages, have safely returned home after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) intervened.

The workers, hailing from Bokaro and Hazaribagh districts, had traveled to the African nation to work for Transrail Lighting Limited. However, they alleged the company withheld their salaries for four months, leaving them in dire financial straits.

Following a viral video appeal by the workers, the Jharkhand Labour Department escalated the matter to the MEA. With support from the Indian Embassy in Cameroon, the ministry ensured both their repatriation and the release of pending wages.

While 17 workers reached India on Monday, two more are expected to return on Tuesday. Officials and experts stressed the need for stricter oversight of recruitment agencies to prevent such exploitation in the future.
