Koderma – In an inspiring incident that blended fear, hope, and humanity, a woman delivered a baby on a moving bus in Jharkhand’s Koderma district during a torrential downpour, thanks to quick-thinking passengers, police officers, and a brave doctor.
The drama unfolded just past midnight when Radha Devi, 20, traveling from Vaishali (Bihar) to Ranchi, went into premature labor on board the ‘Shri Sai’ sleeper bus. With her husband and family by her side, panic set in as her condition worsened, and there was no hospital nearby due to the relentless rain.
Realizing the urgency, the bus driver sought help from a PCR van near a railway bridge. Om Prakash, a police officer, sprang into action, searching through multiple hospitals before locating Dr. Praveen Kumar of Aryan Hospital.
Without hesitation, Dr. Kumar and his team reached the bus through heavy rain. He assessed the situation and chose to conduct the delivery inside the bus, rather than risk moving the mother.
Passengers evacuated the sleeper compartment, and a circle was formed around the bus in the rain for privacy. At 2:40 a.m., a healthy baby girl was born—her first cries marking a moment of joy amidst the chaos.
Mother and child were later admitted to Aryan Hospital and discharged on Monday, both doing well.
The night highlighted how courage, compassion, and collective action can save lives—even in the most adverse conditions.
