Jharkhand HC Fines Madhu Koda for Fourth Time in Rural Electrification Scam Case

Ranchi – The Jharkhand High Court has imposed another fine of ?8,000 on former Chief Minister Madhu Koda for repeated adjournment requests in a case linked to the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme scam.

This is the fourth such penalty against Koda, bringing the total fine to ?15,000. The court has ordered all fines be paid to the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA).

Koda had challenged the framing of charges against him, but his counsel sought more time during Friday’s hearing, prompting the court’s ire and the penalty. Previous fines of ?1,000, ?2,000, and ?4,000 were issued in December 2024, January 2025, and March 2025 respectively.

The CBI has accused Koda of accepting ?11.40 crore in bribes from a Hyderabad-based blacklisted power firm in exchange for awarding contracts in six districts. The agency charges him with abuse of power and corruption during his tenure.

The case relates to the 2006 Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY), under which ?467.76 crore was sanctioned for rural electrification in Jharkhand.
