Jharkhand Police Solve Student's Murder; Friend Confesses to Killing Over Ransom Demand

Bokaro – A shocking case has emerged from Bokaro Steel City in Jharkhand, where a 19-year-old college student, Devashish Kumar, was kidnapped and murdered by his own friend, Aman Kumar Vats, over a failed ransom attempt. The body was buried in the courtyard of a government quarter, police confirmed on Thursday.

The accused has been arrested and confessed to the crime. According to Bokaro SP Harvinder Singh, Devashish’s body was found buried in a pit in Gaiman Colony under the Marafari police station area.

Aman, along with a few others, abducted Devashish and demanded Rs 25 lakh from his family. When the ransom wasn't paid, Aman killed him by strangulation and buried the body. Efforts are underway to trace the other culprits involved.

Devashish had recently cleared his Class 12 Science exams and lived with his mother in Bokaro, while his father worked in Chhattisgarh. On June 10, Aman called him, and Devashish left home. When he didn't return, his mother lodged a missing complaint the next day.

That same evening, a chilling video was sent to his cousin from Devashish's phone, showing him tied up and a ransom demand being made, threatening to kill him if unpaid.

Based on mobile tracking, police arrested Aman, who confessed and showed the burial site. He also admitted to cybercrime involvement and said he planned the kidnapping for money. When it failed, he murdered his friend.

Several incriminating items were recovered, including the digging rod, mobile phones, a SIM card, memory card, and the victim’s belongings.
