Garhwa (Jharkhand) — A 32-year-old junior engineer from Uttar Pradesh was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Thursday morning in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district.
The deceased, identified as Vikas Vishwakarma, was employed as a junior engineer in the Electricity Department in Obra, located in UP's Sonbhadra district. He was originally from Gandhinagar in Ambikapur city, Chhattisgarh.
Vishwakarma had travelled to Mahudand village in Garhwa’s Dandai block to attend the wedding of a friend of his brother. The wedding procession moved to Singhpur Marchwar village in the same district on Wednesday night.
According to villagers, Vishwakarma was last seen dancing with his friends during the wedding celebrations. At some point, he went missing.
When his friends couldn’t reach him, they alerted his family and the local police.
Bansidhar Nagar police launched a search, and on Thursday morning, locals discovered a body floating in a well in the village. It was later confirmed to be Vishwakarma.
The police recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
Bansidhar Nagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Satyendra Kumar visited the scene and spoke with local residents as part of the initial investigation.
Authorities are now working to determine whether Vishwakarma's death was accidental or if foul play was involved. His family members and friends who attended the wedding are also being questioned.
"The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report is released," a police official stated.
The news of the death has caused panic and concern among local residents.
