Ranchi: A rare and dramatic scene unfolded on Thursday morning in Kashida village near Ghatsila town in East Singhbhum district, when a deer wandered into the village after apparently losing its way from the nearby forest. The unexpected visitor caused a stir among villagers, and panic quickly spread as the distressed animal was chased by stray dogs.
Amid the chaos, several alert and courageous villagers intervened to protect the deer from the attacking dogs. They promptly informed the forest department, but when officials arrived, they lacked the proper equipment to safely capture the animal. Taking matters into their own hands, the villagers managed to safely secure the deer with a rope and handed it over to the forest officials.
The injured deer was then transported to Tata Zoo in Jamshedpur, where it is currently undergoing treatment for wounds sustained during the incident.
Local residents believe the deer may have ventured out of the forest in search of water, as the ongoing heatwave has dried up natural water sources. They also pointed to the recent sendra hunting campaign in the forest, which may have frightened wildlife into seeking refuge closer to human settlements.
The villagers have urged the forest department to improve their preparedness for such incidents and to ensure the availability of water within forested areas. They stressed that such measures are vital to preventing wild animals from straying into villages and to ensuring both human and animal safety.
