The Agriculture, Animal Husbandry Department, Jharkhand has blamed migratory birds for the spread of bird flu. Information from the departmental level states that bird flu is a highly contagious viral disease as it infects domestic and wild birds. Almost every year from September to February there is a complaint of getting this disease.

The administration has directed the closure of all chicken-duck shops coming within 10 km radius from the epicenter of the bird flu declared area. Therefore people should avoid buying chicken from the shops in these areas. In the case of ducks, the department believes that infected ducks do not have symptoms of the disease (bird flu) but they are capable of transmission and spread of the disease.
