Deoghar Ropeway Accident: Kin of deceased receive Rs 25 lakh as ex-gratia

Deoghar: In a simple function organised by the district administration on Saturday where the kin of the deceased in the Trikut ropeway tragedy were handed over a cheque of Rs 25 lakh each as compensation.

The Trikut ropeway tragedy happened on April 10 when 3 people had lost their lives and several others were injured.

The ex-gratia amount has been given by the Damodar Ropeway Infra company, which operated the Ropeway service on the Trikut Hills located in Mohanpur block.

On the occasion, Jharkhand Tourism Minister Hafizul Hassan Ansari, Agriculture Minister Badal Patralekh, Deoghar MLA Narayan Das and Deoghar DC Manjunath Bhajantri and SDPO Pawan Kumar were present. Tourism Minister Hafizul Hassan later assured that within two months, a full inquiry of the accident will be conducted and the people responsible for the incident will be taken to task.

Over the question of reopening the ropeway, the tourism minister said that after the inquiry is and by looking at all the safety and security measures, the ropeway will be reopened. Agriculture Minister Badal said that the government will focus on the safety and security of tourists before reopening the ropeway. He also said that both the ministers will be the first riders after the ropeway resumes service.

Apart from the family of the Trikut tragedy, kin of other accident, in which 6 persons died of suffocation in under construction toilet -tank in Devipur, were also given the compensation of Rs 4 lakhs. The deceased were two family members of the landlord, one contractor and his two sons and a labourer. The accident happened on August 9, 2020.
