Kangana Ranaut Slams Media and Critics Over Jantar Mantar Protest Controversy

Mumbai — Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has criticised sections of the media and some feminist voices for supporting what she described as “unethical behaviour” during recent protests at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

On Wednesday, Ranaut shared a video message on Instagram, targeting media outlets and critics whom she accused of encouraging behaviour that, according to her, promotes “animalistic tendencies” among young people.

Reacting to the controversy, the actress said she was addressing media organisations that had supported protesters whose actions she claimed were inappropriate in public spaces, especially in the presence of children, elders, and women.

“We do not accept such behaviour in society and we should not allow it to become normal. We do not want our children to be exposed to such things at an early age,” Ranaut said in the video.

The actress also clarified that she respects the younger generation, particularly Gen Z, and highlighted examples of young people making significant contributions in different fields.

Ranaut praised young entrepreneurs, students, and members of her own team, saying that many youngsters are taking responsibility and achieving success. However, she criticised what she called a section of the media that prioritises social media reactions and engagement over responsible reporting.

She also questioned the views of some feminists who, according to her, argue that women should not be expected to maintain dignity or discipline in society.

Ranaut said that personal freedom must exist within the boundaries of social responsibility and constitutional values. She argued that people cannot justify insulting others or hurting sentiments in public spaces in the name of freedom of expression.

“Freedom ends where another person’s rights begin,” she said, adding that civic sense and respect for others are essential aspects of public life.

The actress further urged young people not to be influenced by what she termed misleading narratives and advised them to focus on personal growth and responsible behaviour.

She said human life should be about progress and evolution rather than moving towards what she described as “regressive” tendencies.

The controversy follows Ranaut’s earlier remarks referring to the protesters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) as “Generation Gutter”. Following her comments, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das and Ranaut exchanged sharp personal remarks on the issue.
