Los Angeles: Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson is set to feature in acclaimed filmmaker Ari Aster’s upcoming directorial venture titled Scapegoat.
The film has been written and will be directed by Aster, who is reuniting with A24
, the studio behind his previous films. Aster and his producing partner Lars Knudsen will back the project under their Square Peg banner.
As with most of Aster’s projects, details about the storyline are being kept tightly under wraps. However, the film has already generated strong buzz in Hollywood, especially after the success of Aster’s earlier films such as Hereditary.
According to industry reports, Aster completed the script late last year and had Johansson as his first choice for the lead role. Despite the actress having a packed 2026 schedule, she reportedly agreed to join the project after reading the screenplay.
Johansson is expected to juggle multiple major projects, including the next The Exorcist installment and the upcoming sequel to The Batman alongside Robert Pattinson.
The actress recently appeared in Jurassic World: Rebirth, which helped revive the blockbuster franchise and reportedly earned massive success at the global box office.
Johansson also made her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
