Mumbai: Actress Swara Bhaskar has strongly responded to online trolls who targeted her over post-pregnancy weight gain, making it clear that a woman’s body is not up for public scrutiny.
The controversy began after Swara shared a throwback photo from 2018, which drew body-shaming comments from some social media users. In response, she posted a collage featuring the old image alongside a recent picture of herself holding her daughter, Raabiya.
Hitting back at critics, Swara expressed frustration over the harsh reactions she has faced in recent years due to changes in her body after childbirth. She emphasised that women’s bodies are not meant to conform to unrealistic beauty standards or be judged solely on appearance.
She also spoke candidly about her decision not to “bounce back” after becoming a mother, describing how life fundamentally changes after childbirth. According to her, expecting women to return to their pre-pregnancy bodies on society’s timeline is unfair and insensitive.
Highlighting the physical and emotional journey of motherhood, Swara said that the body undergoes natural transformations while conceiving, carrying, and nurturing a child—and these changes should be accepted rather than criticised.
Addressing the broader issue, she pointed out the constant societal pressure on women to remain desirable and the tendency to shame them for postpartum weight. She firmly stated that such judgments are unwarranted and that women should be free to live life on their own terms.
Clarifying her stance, Swara added that her comments are not against fitness or health but against unrealistic expectations and intrusive opinions. She concluded by asserting that her acting talent has nothing to do with her weight or conventional standards of beauty.
