
Kuala Lumpur- Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday for a two-day official visit, where he was warmly received at the airport by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and further advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Malaysia.
During his arrival, enthusiastic children holding the Indian tricolour and the Malaysian national flag welcomed the Prime Minister.
Earlier, PM Modi stated that the visit would focus on enhancing defence and security cooperation between the two countries, while also boosting economic collaboration and innovation partnerships.
This marks Prime Minister Modi’s third visit to Malaysia and his first since India and Malaysia elevated their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024.
In his departure statement, PM Modi highlighted the steady progress in the historic ties between the two nations. He expressed his anticipation for discussions with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
“We will work towards deepening defence and security ties, expanding economic and innovation partnerships, and exploring collaboration in new sectors,” he said.
PM Modi also expressed his eagerness to engage with the Indian diaspora in Malaysia, describing them as a vital link between the two nations. He noted that the Indian community in Malaysia, numbering nearly three million, is among the largest globally and has played a significant role in Malaysia’s development.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Malaysian counterpart and interact with members of the Indian community, along with industry and business leaders.
The 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum is also scheduled to take place during the visit.
