Roseau — India has extended financial assistance of USD 250,000 to support five community development projects in Dominica under its Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) initiative, part of the Government of India’s broader development partnership programme.
The Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for these projects were signed in Roseau between Pradeep Rajpurohit, High Commissioner of India to Dominica, and Vince Henderson, Dominica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy.
The five projects include:
Rehabilitation of 235 metres of farm access and feeder road in Macaton, Grand Bay
Rehabilitation of St. Elmo’s Road in Upper Giraudel
Rehabilitation of portions of a farm access road in Carholme
Rehabilitation of the Grand Bay Basketball Court
Construction of a footpath crossing at Fond St. Jean
“India remains steadfast in its endeavor to extend developmental assistance to the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica and extends best wishes to them on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the independence of the country,” the High Commission of India in Trinidad and Tobago — which is also accredited to Dominica — said in a statement.
India and Dominica have shared friendly bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1981. Over the years, several collaborative projects have been implemented under India’s development cooperation initiatives.
Notable among them is the “Resilient Rehabilitation of Salisbury Educational Facility in Dominica Post-Hurricane Maria” project, funded by the India–UNDP Fund with a grant of USD 1 million in 2018. The project, aimed at restoring school infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Maria in 2017, was completed in March 2020.
In February 2021, another USD 1 million project titled “Strengthening Sustainable Livelihoods and Resilience in the Kalinago Community” was launched and successfully completed in January 2024.
A third USD 1 million initiative — the second phase of the Community Resilience Project in the Kalinago Territory — was launched in December 2024 and is currently in progress.
Through these sustained efforts, India continues to reinforce its commitment to fostering sustainable growth, resilience, and infrastructure development across small island nations like Dominica.
