Russia, US Agree on Trump-Putin Meeting in Coming Days: Kremlin Aide

Moscow – The United States and Russia have agreed to hold a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in the coming days, according to Yuri Ushakov, aide to the Russian President.

Speaking to reporters in Moscow on Thursday, Ushakov said the meeting was proposed by the US side and is now in the planning stages. Officials from both countries are working out the details, as reported by Russia’s state news agency, TASS.

“At the request of the American side, a preliminary agreement has been reached to organize a high-level bilateral meeting in the near future,” Ushakov confirmed.

He added that the following week is being considered as a tentative timeline for the summit. “Preparations are already underway, but it's hard to say exactly how many days will be needed. The option of holding the meeting next week is on the table, and we are optimistic about it,” he said.

Ushakov also mentioned that the location for the Trump-Putin meeting has been finalized, although the Kremlin will announce the venue at a later time.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, President Putin met in Moscow with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. President Trump later described the meeting as “very productive” and said “great progress was made.”

Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “My Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, just had a highly productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Great progress was made! Afterwards, I updated some of our European allies. Everyone agrees this war must end, and we will work toward that in the coming days and weeks. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Ushakov also stated that the meeting between Putin and Witkoff was constructive and that Russia has received “signals” from Trump regarding the Ukraine conflict, while also conveying its own messages.

Previously, on July 14, Trump issued a 50-day deadline threatening 100% tariffs on Russia and its trading partners unless a peace deal with Ukraine was reached. On July 29, he shortened the deadline to 10 days. More recently, senior US diplomat John Kelley told the UN Security Council that Trump expects a peace deal to be finalized by August 8.
