Tel Aviv – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Wednesday confirmed that it had carried out airstrikes targeting a centrifuge production site and multiple weapons manufacturing facilities in Tehran, describing them as crucial components of Iran’s nuclear weapons and missile programs.
The military escalation between Israel and Iran has now entered its sixth consecutive day.
In a post on X, the IDF stated: “More than 50 fighter jets from the Air Force, guided by precise intelligence from the Intelligence Branch, carried out a series of strikes on military targets in the Tehran area. As part of efforts to disrupt Iran’s nuclear weapons development, we struck a centrifuge production facility in Tehran, which was designed to enhance the regime’s uranium enrichment capacity for the development of nuclear weapons.”
The statement emphasized that “Iran is enriching uranium at levels far beyond what is necessary for civilian use.”
According to the IDF, the strikes also hit several weapons manufacturing sites. Among them was a facility producing raw materials and components for surface-to-surface missiles, which Iran has previously used to launch attacks on Israel.
Other targets included facilities producing systems and components for surface-to-air missiles, designed to engage aircraft. The IDF said these strikes were part of a broader operation to cripple Iran’s nuclear weapons program and missile production infrastructure.
In a separate development on Tuesday, the IDF announced it had killed Ali Shadmani, Iran's Chief of War Staff and a top military commander closely linked to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in an overnight airstrike.
“Acting on accurate intelligence and a sudden operational window, Israeli fighter jets struck a command center in central Tehran, killing Ali Shadmani — the most senior military commander and a key figure in Iran’s military leadership,” said the IDF.
Shadmani held multiple top positions, including Chief of War Staff, Commander of the Armed Forces Emergency Command, and overseer of the Revolutionary Guards and Iranian army operations.
The latest round of hostilities began last Friday when Israel launched a large-scale offensive aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear and military capabilities. Tehran responded with swift and forceful retaliation, intensifying fears of a wider regional conflict.
