Maruti Suzuki India’s popular SUV FRONX has set a new export milestone, crossing 2 lakh units in overseas sales in less than 38 months and becoming the fastest SUV from India to achieve the feat, the company said on Tuesday.
The Made-in-India FRONX began its international journey in June 2023 and reached its first 1 lakh exports in less than 25 months. The model then added another 1 lakh units in just around 13 months, highlighting the rapid growth in its demand across international markets.
Manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, the FRONX is currently exported to nearly 90 countries, including Japan. The company said the SUV has emerged as one of the key products driving its growing presence in global markets.
“Every vehicle exported by Maruti Suzuki carries the hard work and pride of our people,” Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said, adding that the vehicles represent Indian manufacturing in nearly 120 countries.
Takeuchi said the FRONX has played an important role in strengthening the company’s export performance. Since FY 2024-25, it has remained India’s top exported passenger vehicle, according to the company.
He noted that the SUV reached its second lakh of exports considerably faster than its first, reflecting increasing acceptance of the model outside India. The company said the achievement also demonstrates the growing capabilities of India's automobile manufacturing ecosystem under the “Make in India, Make for the World” approach.
Maruti Suzuki has maintained its position as India’s leading passenger vehicle exporter for five consecutive years. The company currently exports 17 models to nearly 120 countries and accounted for more than 55 per cent of India’s passenger vehicle exports, according to its statement.
The company’s strong export portfolio extends beyond the FRONX. Its other major export models include the Jimny 5-Door, e VITARA, Dzire and Baleno.
Notably, all five of these models featured among Maruti Suzuki’s leading export products in the first quarter of FY 2026-27. The company said that all three of India’s top passenger vehicle exports during the quarter were also Maruti Suzuki models.
The FRONX milestone underlines the increasing role of Indian automobile manufacturing in global markets. Its rapid rise in exports, particularly the much faster pace at which it reached its second lakh, also suggests that Indian-made vehicles are gaining wider acceptance among international customers.
