India Sends Fresh Consignment of Medicines to Afghanistan, Continues Humanitarian Assistance

India has delivered another consignment of life-saving medicines and medical consumables to Kabul, reaffirming its ongoing humanitarian support for the people of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the latest supplies have been provided for a government hospital in Kabul. The ministry emphasised that healthcare remains a key component of India's humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.

“India’s humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan continues,” the MEA said in a post on X, adding that the latest consignment included essential medicines and medical consumables.

The latest delivery is part of a broader Indian effort to provide essential healthcare supplies and other humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. India has supplied medicines, relief materials and other essential items to the country at regular intervals.

On August 20, India delivered another consignment of medicines and medical consumables to a government hospital in Kabul. The MEA had described the initiative as part of India's continuing health partnership with the Afghan people.

India’s humanitarian assistance has also extended beyond healthcare. In July, following devastating floods in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province, India provided relief supplies, including food items and family tents, to the country’s National Disaster Management Authority for affected communities.

In June, India sent five tonnes of essential medicines to Kabul, further strengthening its ongoing medical assistance programme.

India’s engagement with Afghanistan has also seen diplomatic developments. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in August that the two countries share a longstanding relationship and that bilateral engagement had gained momentum over the preceding year through diplomatic exchanges, humanitarian assistance and development cooperation.

Jaiswal also noted that India had elevated the status of its technical mission in Kabul to an embassy in October 2025, with the head of the mission designated as Chargé d’Affaires.

India has maintained that its engagement with Afghanistan will continue to be guided by humanitarian assistance, development cooperation and its broader priorities concerning the Afghan people.
