Iran has turned down a ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States, instead calling for a more comprehensive and permanent end to the ongoing conflict. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Tehran submitted a 10-point plan outlining its own conditions for peace.
The move comes after Washington reportedly shared a 15-point proposal through diplomatic channels, which Iran dismissed as unrealistic and out of touch with the situation on the ground.
Iran’s Stand: No Temporary Ceasefire
Iranian officials made it clear that they do not support a temporary ceasefire. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that a pause in fighting would only allow adversaries to regroup and escalate violence later, adding that such an arrangement would not be acceptable.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump described Iran’s response as a “significant step,” but maintained that it fell short of expectations.
Key Points in Iran’s 10-Point Proposal
Iran’s roadmap focuses on long-term solutions rather than short-term relief. Some of its major demands include:
A complete end to hostilities across West Asia
Guaranteed safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz
Reconstruction of war-damaged regions
Lifting of international sanctions
Mechanisms to prevent future military attacks
Recognition of Iran’s sovereignty over key strategic areas
Background: Rising Tensions
The situation escalated after a major military confrontation earlier this year. On February 28, joint strikes by the US and Israel reportedly targeted Iranian cities, leading to significant casualties, including top leadership figures such as Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran launched missile and drone attacks on US and Israeli assets across the region, further intensifying the conflict.
Uncertain Path Ahead
Iran’s rejection of the US proposal highlights the deep divide between both sides on how to end the conflict. While Washington appears open to negotiation, Tehran is insisting on broader guarantees and structural changes before agreeing to peace.
The situation remains fluid, with global markets and geopolitical stability closely tied to developments in this high-stakes standoff.
