‘Tears for terrorists, silence for victims’: PM Modi Slams Congress Over ‘Appeasement Politics’

New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on the Congress during his address in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, while replying to the debate on Operation Sindoor. He accused the party of decades of inaction against terrorism, driven by appeasement and vote-bank politics.

In a strong-worded speech, PM Modi recalled the pre-2014 era when, according to him, India lived under constant threat, with the government merely issuing alerts rather than taking action. “People were told to be cautious because bombs could explode anywhere — that was the Congress-era reality,” he said.

He contrasted this with the BJP’s tenure, saying India now responds firmly to terrorism. “The country wants to know — if we can act now, why didn’t the Congress do so earlier? What held them back?”

PM Modi accused the Congress of being lenient on terrorism for political reasons. He cited several examples:

  • Batla House Encounter: “When terrorists were neutralised, a senior Congress leader cried. Those weren’t tears for victims, but for appeasement.”

  • 2001 Parliament Attack: “A Congress leader advocated leniency for terrorist Afzal Guru, even after such an attack on democracy.”

  • 26/11 Mumbai Attacks: “Despite clear evidence pointing to Pakistan, Congress floated the ‘saffron terror’ theory to protect its vote bank.”

He also criticized the Congress for weakening anti-terror laws and delaying the full application of the Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir. “Article 370 stayed because Congress didn’t want to risk its appeasement strategy. Dr. Ambedkar’s Constitution was deliberately kept out of Kashmir.”

Referring to an alleged comment by a Congress leader to a U.S. diplomat, where Hindu groups were called more dangerous than Lashkar-e-Taiba, PM Modi said, “This is the kind of mindset that equates patriots with terrorists, just for political mileage.”

The Prime Minister’s remarks emphasized the BJP’s tough stance on national security and its effort to portray Congress as compromising on internal safety. As opposition benches reacted strongly, PM Modi ended his speech with a firm declaration:
“India has changed. The politics of fear and appeasement is no longer acceptable. The days of ignoring terrorism are over.”
