India Adds Three More Medals as Shivaji Parashuram Shines with Second Silver at Asian U23 Championships

New Delhi: India continued its impressive run at the inaugural Asian U23 Athletics Championships in Ordos, China, with distance runner Shivaji Parashuram clinching a silver medal in the men's 10,000m on Saturday. Discus thrower Priya and 400m hurdler Shravani Sachin Sangle also secured bronze medals, taking India's overall medal tally to 11.

Parashuram delivered another strong performance after winning silver in the men's 5,000m earlier in the competition, making it his second medal of the championships. He clocked a personal best of 29:33.54 in the 10,000m final but had to settle for second place behind Japan's Yoshihiro Kusuoka, who claimed gold in 29:29.34. China's Jinzhi Jiang finished third with a time of 29:42.54.

India's Shailesh Kushwaha narrowly missed the podium in the demanding 25-lap race, finishing fourth in 30:46.78.

In the women's discus throw, Priya earned the bronze medal with a best effort of 50.44m, achieved on her third attempt. China dominated the event, with Zhichao Jiang winning gold with a throw of 58.63m, while compatriot Jingru Huang claimed silver with 55.33m.

Shravani Sachin Sangle added another bronze to India's tally in the women's 400m hurdles, finishing in 58.09 seconds. Chinese Taipei's Hsin Ju Chung won the gold medal in 57.41 seconds, while Uzbekistan's Nurkhon Ochilova secured silver with a time of 57.99 seconds.

India also recorded several near-podium finishes during the day. Shreeya Rajesh placed fourth in the women's 100m hurdles with a timing of 13.49 seconds, while Sabita Toppo finished sixth in 13.73 seconds. Long jumper Mohd Atta Sazid ended fifth with a best leap of 7.72m.

In the women's shot put, Anupriya VS narrowly missed a medal after finishing fourth with a throw of 14.97m.

Meanwhile, Astik Pradhan finished fifth in the men's 400m, clocking 46.33 seconds, while fellow Indian Setu Mishra came seventh with a time of 47.26 seconds.
