Philadelphia — Kylian Mbappe marked his 100th appearance for France in spectacular fashion, scoring twice as Les Bleus cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Iraq in their FIFA World Cup Group I clash, securing a place in the Round of 32 with one match still to play.
Mbappe continued his remarkable World Cup scoring run, taking his tally to four goals in the 2026 tournament. The brace also gave him six World Cup matches with two or more goals — the most by any player in the competition's history. He now trails only Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot.

France took the lead in the 14th minute when Michael Olise laid the ball into Mbappe's path, and the captain unleashed a powerful left-footed strike from 20 yards that left the goalkeeper with no chance.
The second goal came after a costly mistake by Iraq. Defender Zaid Tahseen and goalkeeper Ahmed Basil failed to deal with a goal kick, gifting possession to Ousmane Dembele. The winger unselfishly squared the ball to Mbappe, who tapped in from close range.
With his second goal, Mbappe reached another historic milestone. He began the match on 14 FIFA World Cup goals, equalled Ronaldo's tally of 15 with his opener, and then moved to 16 with his second. That puts him level with Miroslav Klose for the second-highest World Cup scoring total, just one goal behind record-holder Lionel Messi on 17.
Dembele also got on the scoresheet in the closing stages after another fine contribution from Olise, who threaded a perfectly weighted pass into his path. The winger finished emphatically to score the first World Cup goal of his career.

Already through to the knockout stage, France will now face Norway in their final Group I match with qualification assured, allowing them to focus on building momentum for the business end of the tournament.
Mbappe, meanwhile, remains firmly in the hunt for both the Golden Boot and the all-time FIFA World Cup scoring record. The France captain is also closing in on another personal landmark. With 100 international caps now to his name, he is just three appearances away from matching former France captain and current coach Didier Deschamps' tally of 103 caps. If France continue their World Cup run and Mbappe features in every match, he could equal that mark in the Round of 16.
