
Kolkata- Tirthapati Institution delivered an impressive performance in the junior boys category at the 51st All India Invitation Inter-School Rowing Championship, organised by Lake Club at Rabindra Sarobar in Kolkata on Thursday.
The school made a strong mark by securing places in the finals of both the double scull and fours events. In the junior boys double scull, Tirthapati’s “A” and “B” teams both advanced to the title clash after defeating New Horizon High School and Patha Bhavan “B” respectively, setting up an all-Tirthapati final.
In the junior boys fours event, Tirthapati “B” booked a place in the final after overcoming St. James in the semifinal. They will now face Patha Bhavan “A”, which defeated Patha Bhavan “B” in the other semifinal.
In the girls’ competitions, Modern High School “A” and National High School entered the final of the senior girls fours event after victories over Modern High “B” and Bagbazar Multipurpose High School respectively. Modern High “B” later claimed third place by defeating Bagbazar Multipurpose in the bronze medal playoff.
The senior girls double scull final will see St Paul’s take on Ashok Hall. St Paul’s defeated National High, while Ashok Hall outclassed South Point in their semifinal encounters.
Earlier in the day, Tirthapati Institution had already shown its dominance in the junior boys double scull by sending both its “A” and “B” teams into the semifinals. In the last-four stage, Tirthapati “A” faced New Horizon High School, while Tirthapati “B” took on Patha Bhavan.
Other schools reaching the semifinals in various categories included Modern High School and Ashok Hall in senior girls double scull, Beltola Girls’ School and Ballygunge Siksha Sadan in junior girls fours, and Khalsa High School in senior boys double scull.
In the final group-stage matches, Modern High defeated National High, Ashok Hall got the better of Hirendra Leela Patranabis School Girls, while Beltola Girls’ School and Ballygunge Siksha Sadan registered wins over Future Hope and National High School respectively. Khalsa High School also advanced after defeating St Lawrence.
