New Delhi- FMCG giant Colgate-Palmolive India has increased prices of several toothpaste products by around 4 to 5 per cent this month as rising raw material and packaging expenses continue to put pressure on manufacturers.
According to a report by NDTV Profit citing industry sources, the latest price revisions have impacted popular variants including Colgate Dental Cream and Max Fresh.
As part of the revision, the price of the Colgate Dental Cream 200g + 100g + toothbrush combo pack has gone up by Rs 8 and now costs Rs 208. The 200g Colgate Dental Cream pack has also become dearer by Rs 5, taking its price to Rs 135.
The company has similarly increased the price of the 100g Colgate Dental Cream pack by Rs 3 to Rs 73, while also increasing the product quantity by nearly 10 per cent.
In another revision, the Colgate Max Fresh Blue 70g pack with 15 per cent extra toothpaste now costs Rs 83 after a Rs 4 hike.
Premium offerings have seen sharper increases. The Visible White Purple 200g pack with 20 per cent extra has become costlier by Rs 17, pushing its maximum retail price to Rs 395.
Industry distributors said low-priced toothpaste packs are unlikely to see immediate price changes because they cater to highly price-sensitive consumers in the mass market segment.
The price hikes come as FMCG companies continue to deal with inflationary pressure in commodities, packaging materials and logistics.
Toothpaste remains the biggest revenue-generating category for Colgate-Palmolive India, contributing nearly 80 per cent of the company’s total revenue, the report added.
Shares of Colgate-Palmolive India were trading largely unchanged at Rs 2,083 apiece on the NSE on Friday.
