
Bengaluru :Rising Indian long jumper Mubassina Mohammed secured the gold medal in the women’s long jump event at the Fifth Indian Open Jumps Competition held at the Anju Bobby George Foundation Campus in Bengaluru on Sunday.
The 20-year-old athlete, representing the Anju Bobby George Sports Foundation, delivered an impressive performance with a winning jump of 6.38 metres, surpassing her previous personal best of 6.36 metres.
Mubassina maintained consistent form throughout the competition, recording jumps of 6.18m, 6.24m, 6.29m, 5.81m, 6.15m, before achieving her best effort of 6.38m.
Bhavani Yadav of the Railways finished second with a jump of 6.27 metres, earning the silver medal. Kusuma Ravada, also representing the Anju Bobby George Sports Foundation, secured the bronze medal with a jump of 6.08 metres.
On the opening day of the competition, an intense contest unfolded in the men’s triple jump between Abdulla Aboobacker and Praveen Chithravel.
Representing the Indian Air Force, Aboobacker produced his best jump of 16.83 metres on his third attempt to claim the gold medal. His earlier attempts measured 16.05m and 16.57m, after which he opted not to take the remaining three jumps.
Chithravel finished close behind, taking the silver medal with a jump of 16.78 metres in the season-opening competition.
