Now, mobile app for India's border roads developers

A new mobile application has been launched to provide easier access to personnel and career-related information for thousands of General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) employees serving in remote border areas across India.

The application, named “Gref Abhilekh”, was launched by Lieutenant General Harpal Singh, Director General of Border Roads, at the GREF Centre and Records in Pune.

According to an Indian Army spokesperson, the app is expected to benefit around 36,000 GREF personnel deployed in difficult and remote parts of the country, where they contribute to the construction and maintenance of critical border infrastructure.

Compatible with Android, Windows and iOS devices, the application will provide serving GREF personnel with real-time information related to their service and career records.

Through the app, personnel can access their personal and family details, service information, probation and confirmation status, as well as records of honours, awards and medals.

The application will also provide information on promotions and seniority lists. Personnel can download their pay slips directly through the platform and submit grievances without having to rely entirely on traditional paperwork or physical communication.

The launch represents an effort to use technology to simplify administrative processes for personnel who are often posted in challenging locations far from their parent offices.

Speaking at the launch, Lieutenant General Harpal Singh expressed satisfaction with the organisation’s efforts to establish a technology-driven roadmap for improving its administrative systems.

He said the mobile application would not only improve functional efficiency but also increase transparency, which in turn could contribute to better morale among personnel serving in demanding border regions.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) plays a crucial role in developing and maintaining roads, bridges and other strategic infrastructure in some of India’s most difficult terrains, particularly along the country’s borders.

The introduction of “Gref Abhilekh” is therefore more than just a digital record-keeping initiative. By bringing service information, pay documents, career records and grievance mechanisms onto a single platform, the app could make routine administrative services significantly more accessible for personnel working far from major centres.

The Director General also expressed confidence that the Border Roads Organisation would continue to strengthen its capabilities by adopting newer technologies and modern procedures.
