New Delhi: A total of 30 Amrit Bharat Express trains have been operational since December 2023, with nine additional services recently introduced, significantly expanding their footprint across the country, the government said.
The newly added routes enhance connectivity across the Northeast, eastern, central, western, and southern regions, linking border areas, major urban centres, and key pilgrimage destinations.
According to an official statement, the Amrit Bharat Express marks a major step in strengthening India’s long-distance rail infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity and scale. Improved rail connectivity is expected to support employment mobility, tourism, trade, and access to education and healthcare across diverse regions.
The government noted that Amrit Bharat Express trains are fully non-AC and consist of 11 General Class coaches, eight Sleeper Class coaches, one Pantry Car, and two Second Class–cum–Luggage–cum–Guard Vans equipped with disabled-friendly compartments.
Designed and manufactured to cater to the needs of the general public, the trains aim to provide a modern, comfortable, and high-quality travel experience for passengers in the non-AC segment.
“With fares of around Rs 500 per 1,000 kilometres, and proportionately lower fares for short and medium-distance journeys, the service follows a simple and transparent fare structure without dynamic pricing,” the statement said.
The Amrit Bharat Express is intended to bridge regions separated by distance and limited opportunity, facilitating travel for employment, education, and family purposes. It forms part of the government’s broader push to expand affordable long-distance rail connectivity nationwide.
By combining affordability, extensive geographic coverage, and passenger-focused design, the service addresses mobility needs that are vital for economic integration and social cohesion. As the network continues to grow, the Amrit Bharat Express is expected to play a long-term role in connecting people, regions, and opportunities across India.
