Samsung India launches 2 smartphones in Galaxy J series

Samsung India has expanded its budget smartphone lineup with the launch of the Galaxy J6+ and Galaxy J4+, priced at Rs 15,990 and Rs 10,990 respectively.

The new smartphones feature a glass-finish design, Infinity displays and Dolby Atmos audio. They will go on sale from September 25 through retail stores as well as Amazon, Flipkart and Samsung's online shop.

Samsung said the latest additions were aimed at strengthening its popular J series in the Indian market. Mohandeep Singh, Senior Vice President, Mobile Business, Samsung India, said the company was introducing features such as side-mounted fingerprint recognition, Emotify, glass finishes and new reflective colours to make the series more attractive to consumers.

The Galaxy J6+ comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the more affordable Galaxy J4+ offers 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Both models support storage expansion and are powered by a 3,300mAh battery.

The phones run on Android Oreo and are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 425 processor, positioning them in the entry-level to lower mid-range segment at the time of launch.

One of the major differences between the two models is their camera setup. The Galaxy J6+ features a 13MP and 5MP dual rear-camera system along with an 8MP front camera. The Galaxy J4+ has a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera.

Samsung also highlighted the Galaxy J6+'s side-mounted fingerprint sensor, which was being introduced as a first for a Galaxy device. The placement was intended to provide a convenient alternative to traditional rear-mounted fingerprint scanners while keeping the phone's design clean.

Both smartphones support L1 Widevine certification, allowing compatible high-definition video streaming services to offer HD playback. Combined with Dolby Atmos, Samsung said the devices could provide a more immersive audio-visual experience for consumers watching videos or listening to content.

The phones feature a True HD+ Infinity display design that Samsung claimed provided nearly 15 per cent more screen area without significantly increasing the overall size of the devices.

With the J6+ and J4+, Samsung was targeting India's large value-conscious smartphone market by bringing features that were increasingly associated with more expensive phones — including larger displays, biometric security, dual cameras and enhanced audio — to more affordable price points.
