BJP Celebrates ‘New Dawn’ in Bengal as Suvendu Adhikari Set to Take Oath as Chief Minister

Kolkata - Senior BJP leaders on Saturday hailed a major political shift in West Bengal ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari, who is set to become the state’s first BJP Chief Minister.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh launched a sharp attack on the previous ruling dispensation in the state while reacting to the BJP’s rise in Bengal politics.

He said Bengal has historically been a cultural centre of Sanatan tradition, but alleged that the Trinamool Congress
increasingly promoted extremism, anarchy and appeasement politics. According to him, the people of Bengal ultimately placed their trust in the BJP after becoming dissatisfied with the previous government.

BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo described the political transition as a “new sunrise” for West Bengal. He said the change represented new hope, aspirations, development and governance focused on ordinary citizens.

Union Minister Ram Kripal Yadav also congratulated Suvendu Adhikari ahead of the oath-taking ceremony and expressed confidence that he would work towards Bengal’s development after years of alleged neglect.

The swearing-in marks a significant milestone in the state’s political history, with Adhikari emerging as the BJP’s strongest face in Bengal politics following a series of high-profile electoral victories against former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Adhikari first grabbed national attention after defeating Banerjee in the fiercely contested 2021 Assembly election from Nandigram by a narrow margin. He later strengthened his political standing with another major win in the 2026 Assembly elections from Bhabanipur, where he defeated Banerjee by more than 15,000 votes.

The victory was seen as a major setback for Banerjee in one of her traditional strongholds and further cemented Adhikari’s position as the BJP’s leading leader in the state.
