Raipur- Twelve active Maoists, including two area committee members, surrendered before Superintendent of Police Robinson Guria in Narayanpur district on Wednesday, marking a significant achievement in Chhattisgarh’s anti-Maoist campaign.
The surrendered group, which included five women and seven men, carried a combined reward of over ?18 lakh. Police said they were associated with various units of the Naxal network such as LOS-CNM, PPCM, Military Latoon, and Jantana Sarkar.
Authorities credited the state’s rehabilitation policy for the development, noting that it has been instrumental in persuading Maoists to return to mainstream society. “This surrender will weaken the operational strength of Maoists and send a strong message to others still in the fold,” SP Guria said.
The surrender comes as the Union government intensifies efforts to wipe out Naxalism by March 2026, a deadline set by Home Minister Amit Shah. Data shows steady progress: 928 Maoists surrendered in 2024, and in the first four months of 2025 alone, 718 have laid down arms. Additionally, over 241 Maoists have been killed in security operations this year.
Officials called the Narayanpur surrender both a morale booster for security forces and a validation of the government’s dual strategy—firm military action combined with rehabilitation initiatives.
