Jammu - Ten people lost their lives and three others went missing after a landslide and a cloudburst struck Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi and Ramban districts overnight.
Officials said that seven members of a family were killed when a landslide buried their house in Mahore area of Reasi district late Friday night, following heavy rain.
The victims have been identified as Nazir Ahmed (38), his wife Wazira Begum (35), and their children Bilal Ahmed (13), Mohd Mustafa (11), Mohd Adil (8), Mohd Mubarak (6), and Mohd Wasim (5). Their home, a temporary mud dwelling in Badder village of Mahore, was completely flattened.
In a separate incident, three people were killed in a cloudburst in the Rajgarh area of Ramban district.
Authorities confirmed that search and rescue operations are ongoing and that relief measures have been initiated for the affected families. Several houses were damaged, with some completely washed away in the flash floods. Temporary relief camps have been set up to provide shelter, food, water, and medical aid to those displaced.
Rescue officials said that the situation is being closely monitored and additional teams will be deployed if needed. With rivers and streams swelling due to continuous rainfall, residents have been urged to remain cautious.
This latest tragedy adds to a series of rain-related disasters in Jammu and Kashmir this month. So far, more than 46 people have died across the region due to landslides, flash floods, and incessant downpours. Reasi and Doda districts alone have reported at least 16 deaths, while districts such as Jammu, Samba, and Kathua have also suffered extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and farmland.
