Why is Opposition Afraid? PM Modi Defends Bills on Removing Arrested PM, CM

New Delhi/Gaya — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday strongly defended the three new bills that mandate the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, or Ministers if they remain under arrest for 30 consecutive days on serious charges. He also hit out at the Opposition for opposing the move.

Addressing a rally in Gaya, Bihar, PM Modi said the Opposition’s fear of these bills is clear.

“These bills cover even the Prime Minister. If any Chief Minister, Minister, or Prime Minister is arrested and fails to secure bail within 30 days, they will have to resign on the 31st day,” he said.

He contrasted this with current rules under which a junior government employee is suspended after just 50 hours of detention, while top leaders can continue to exercise power even from jail.

“We have recently seen how files were being signed and orders issued from jail. With such practices, how can the fight against corruption succeed?” he asked, in a veiled reference to former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

PM Modi stressed that in ten years of NDA rule, not a single corruption charge has surfaced, unlike Congress governments that were “mired in scams for decades.”

“In Bihar, every child knows about the corruption of the RJD. If we are serious about fighting corruption, no one should be above the law,” he added.

Taking aim at the Mahagathbandhan, he said Congress and RJD governments treated public money as their own treasure, leaving projects incomplete for years to siphon off funds.

“This is why our government has brought laws that treat everyone equally, from a peon to the Prime Minister,” he concluded.
