Jammu: The Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday, killing two terrorists during a swift and precise operation.
“In a successful anti-infiltration operation, alert troops of the #IndianArmy eliminated two terrorists attempting to cross the Line of Control,” said the White Knight Corps, headquartered in Nagrota, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
They added: “Operation Shivshakti — swift action and accurate firepower thwarted the nefarious designs.”
Three weapons were recovered from the slain terrorists. The Army confirmed that intelligence inputs from both military intelligence and the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) played a crucial role in the coordinated operation, which remains ongoing.
Earlier in the day, the Army reported spotting two terrorists near the border fence, leading to a gunfight in the area.
This interception comes just two days after the elimination of all three terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, during Operation Mahadev in Srinagar.
The three slain militants — Suleman Shah (Lashkar-e-Taiba commander), Abu Hamza, and Jibran Bhai — were killed in a joint operation by the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police in the upper reaches of Dachigam National Park, at the base of the Mahadev Mountain in the Harwan area.
On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed Parliament that these terrorists were responsible for the Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and one local resident.
He stated that intelligence tracking and eyewitness accounts confirmed their involvement in the brutal assault, which had triggered national outrage.
In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi authorized the Armed Forces to act decisively. Targeted strikes were carried out against terror infrastructure at nine locations inside Pakistan, including Muridke near Lahore, Bahawalpur, and Kotli and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Pakistan retaliated with heavy mortar shelling on civilian areas in Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara districts.
In counter-response, Indian forces reportedly damaged 11 Pakistani defence bases. Despite Pakistan’s request for a ceasefire, India refused to suspend Operation Sindoor, maintaining a firm stance on dismantling terror networks.
