Security forces launched a large-scale search operation across nearly two dozen villages in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday following reports of militant presence in the area, police said.

The operation covered villages including Putrigam, Rohmu, Rajpora, Matrigam, Goosu and Frasipora, among others. Security personnel conducted searches in the villages and surrounding areas as part of efforts to locate suspected militants.

A police officer said there had been no reports of an exchange of fire in any of the areas covered by the operation so far.

The search comes amid continued security operations in south Kashmir, an area that has witnessed militant activity and counter-insurgency operations over the years.

Such exercises are commonly described as area domination operations. Security forces conduct them to maintain a strong presence in vulnerable areas, prevent militants from establishing safe locations and gather information about their movements.

Officials were maintaining a close watch on the situation as the searches continued across the affected villages.
