Nearly 35,000 lawyers abstain from legal proceedings in protest

Protesting against the beating of the Palamu district bar association president and senior lawyer Sachidanand Tiwari by District and Sessions Judge of Daltonganj Pankaj Kumar lawyers in the state will remain away from legal proceedings on Tuesday.

It is estimated that nearly 35,000 lawyers practising in the high court, district court and sub divisional courts abstained themselves from judicial work peacefully.

On Monday in the executive committee meeting of the state bar council, it was also decided to remain away from work and also to form a four-member committee that would visit Daltonganj and interact with the victim and other lawyers and submit a report in this regard.

The Jharkhand State Bar Council had condemned the attack which took place in the premises of the Daltonganj civil court on February 15. It said that the incident was reflection of the arrogant and above law attitude of some of the judicial officers towards the advocates.
