Navratri Commences in state, people throng to temples to offer obeisance to deity

Ranchi: One of the most highly awaited festivals of the year the Navratri or the Durga Puja commenced from Sunday with people lining up outside the temples to pay their obeisance to Goddess Durga.

On the first day of the nine-day festival the form of goddess in Shailputri is worshipped by the people. Apart from doing the Kalash Sthapana Durga Path commenced at the homes of the people. Many devotees also kept a fast on the first day of the nine-day festival.

On the auspicious occasion, the temples in and around the city and also in other districts of the state decorated aptly. However, the incessant rainfall has dampened the festive mood in the state as due to the Rain Falls which has continued for the last 4 to 5 days has delayed the preparations of the Puja pandals as the workers are waiting for the weather to clear out to apply their final touches to the pandals.

On the other hand, the markets too have failed to encash the festive atmosphere as due to the rainfall people are being forced to stay inside their homes rather than come out and indulgence in shopping.

The bad weather conditions have got the organizers of various Puja committees worried who have now to work out details regarding the opening of the Pandal for the devotees and also take a call on the date on which immersion of
the idols will be made.
