Dhanbad: A man in his fifties was beaten to death over suspicion of being a child lifter in Kanta Pahadi Basti under Nirsa Police Station area of this district. The deceased has been identified as Rangamatia resident Pratham Kumar Singh.
Upon receiving information SDO Raj Hembram, Rural SP Aman Kumar and SDPO Vijay Kushwaha reached on the spot and inquired into the incident.
The Rural SP said that the man was caught swooping inside the houses in the wee hours of the day when he was caught by the villagers who said that the man confessed that he had come to lift a child from the area following which he was thrashed by the villagers.
He was rushed to PMCH where he died during the course of treatment. The SP said that the body has been sent for postmortem.
On the other hand, the family members of the deceased said that Pratham Singh was mentally challenged and was undergoing treatment since 2010.
