Ranchi: The father of tribal activist Nisha Bhagat has approached the police seeking justice in connection with her death. Handu Bhagat submitted a written complaint at Pithoria police station, demanding an FIR against Ajay Tirkey, Jyotsna Kerketta and several others. Suspecting a conspiracy behind his daughter's death, he has called for a thorough investigation and strict action against those found responsible.
In his complaint, Handu Bhagat alleged that Nisha had been facing prolonged mental and social harassment. He claimed that objectionable comments were circulated about her on social media and allegations were made questioning her character. According to him, the repeated harassment had taken a toll on his daughter. He also accused certain people associated with the land business of troubling her.
The father specifically named Ajay Tirkey and Jyotsna Kerketta and sought an investigation into their alleged roles. He also urged the police to examine Nisha's final Facebook Live session, saying that all the people and incidents she mentioned in the video should be thoroughly investigated. The written complaint was received at Pithoria police station by Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar Das.
Meanwhile, youths staged a road blockade near Nagri Checkpost to protest Nisha Bhagat's death. The protesters demanded a CBI investigation, insisting that the case be probed impartially and the truth brought to light.
Nisha Bhagat's body was found on November 6 at a rented house under Pithoria police station limits. Before her death, she had appeared on Facebook Live, where she was seen crying and speaking about her difficulties. During the broadcast, she accused certain people and raised questions about the functioning of the police and administration. Her father has now urged investigators to examine the allegations and incidents mentioned in the video.
Nisha Bhagat had contested the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections from the Gumla constituency on a JLKM ticket. She later left the party. She was known for her outspoken views on issues related to Sarna and Sanatan traditions. The police are yet to take further action on the basis of her father's complaint.
