Multidisciplinary medical team overcomes complex challenges to perform surgery on a 42-year-old patient
Ranchi: The Department of Neurosurgery at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully removing a brain tumour through a small incision of approximately one inch.
The patient, 42-year-old Sonia Khatoon, a resident of Dhanbad, was suffering from neurofibromatosis and oligodendroglioma, a type of brain tumour. Her case was particularly challenging due to several associated health complications, which made anaesthesia administration and preoperative preparation difficult.
To ensure the patient's safety, consultations were conducted with various departments, and the necessary medical clearances were obtained following a comprehensive preoperative assessment.
The surgery was performed by a team from the Department of Neurosurgery under the leadership of its Head, Dr Anand Prakash. The neurosurgical team included Dr Narayan and Dr Kumar Deepak, who played key roles in the procedure.
The anaesthesia team, comprising Dr Mukesh, Dr Rajesh, Dr Vashishth, Dr Kshitij and Dr Adhishree, also made important contributions to the successful completion of the operation.
Despite the complexities associated with the patient's medical condition, the surgery was completed successfully through coordinated efforts involving the neurosurgery, anaesthesia and other concerned departments.
The patient is currently under close medical observation. Doctors are hopeful that, as her health improves, she will be able to resume her normal daily activities.
The successful procedure highlights the importance of precise surgical planning, medical expertise and multidisciplinary coordination in managing complex neurosurgical cases.
RIMS Ranchi continues to work towards providing advanced neurosurgical treatment and specialised medical care to patients from Jharkhand and neighbouring regions.
