A Veg Roll Argument, a Knife Fight: One Dead and Three Injured in Adityapur Late-Night Clash

What began as an argument over a veg roll turned deadly late on Tuesday night when a knife fight broke out at a roadside food stall, leaving one young man dead and three others seriously injured. The injured are being treated at TMH.

The incident is reported to have occurred around 1 a.m. near the AIDA gate, in the lane of eateries. Shekhar Tirkey, a resident of Mango, had come to Adityapur to do lighting work at the Shiv Mandir Durga Puja Committee pandal. Late at night, he went to a fast-food cart near the AIDA gate with his companion Golu to eat a veg roll.

According to reports, an argument broke out between Shekhar and the shopkeeper over the order. Within moments, the dispute escalated into a physical altercation between the two sides.

Seeing the situation spiral, Shekhar and Golu called members of the puja committee to the spot. Committee member Sunny arrived after being informed, but the dispute only worsened. It is alleged that the shopkeeper and his staff attacked Sunny and stabbed him with a knife.

Sagar Jha and Arun Pandey, who stepped in to intervene, were also caught in the attack. The assailants allegedly stabbed both of them multiple times as well. In the violence, one young man lost his life while three others were left seriously injured.

Police have taken three young men into custody, including the operator of the fast-food stall. Seraikela SDPO Abhinav Bhardwaj and Adityapur police station in-charge Anjani Kumar reached the spot with a police team as soon as news of the incident came in, and action was taken immediately.

According to SDPO Bhardwaj, preliminary information points to a violent clash following a minor dispute. Police are questioning the detained youths and investigating the full circumstances behind the stabbing and the role of everyone involved.

The case is a stark reminder of how quickly a trivial late-night quarrel can turn lethal — and how the presence of a knife can convert a street argument into a tragedy with a body count. What exactly triggered the stabbing, and whether the response escalated beyond what the initial dispute warranted, is what the investigation will now have to establish.
