A unique religious tradition involving the installation of 1,111 sacred kalash (ritual pots) has remained a major attraction for devotees at Devi-Darshan Vaishno Dham in Getlatu, Ranchi, for the past 15 years.
Organised under the aegis of Shri Vaishnavi Shiv Ram Seva Sansthan by the Devi-Darshan Maha Yagya Mahotsav Samiti, the collective kalash installation ceremony is held on the occasion of Vijayadashami with prayers for public welfare. According to local belief, devotees who make a sincere religious vow while participating in the ritual may have their wishes fulfilled.
To ensure that visitors can comfortably view and worship all 1,111 kalash, organisers set up a specially designed mandap divided into three sections. The first section houses the sacred kalash, the second accommodates the acharyas, priests and chief yajman, while the third is reserved for devotees who participate in collective prayers after making their religious vows.
The festival features several rituals and devotional programmes throughout the celebration. These include daily recitations of the Durga Saptashati, Navah Path, grand morning and evening aartis, and a collective havan. The programme also includes the worship of young girls during Kanya Puja, a large community feast or bhandara, devotional night-long singing sessions, and dance-dramas based on religious themes.
Over the past 15 years, the annual gathering has brought together religious traditions and community participation during Navratri. Devotees visit the dham to worship Goddess Durga and pray for peace, prosperity and well-being in their families.
The installation of 1,111 kalash has become a defining feature of the celebration at Getlatu, reflecting the continuing importance of collective worship and faith among participating devotees.
