The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for an attack on two Pakistan Coast Guard boats off Jiwani in Balochistan’s Gwadar district, alleging that 13 Pakistani personnel were killed, according to local media reports.

In a statement, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the group’s maritime wing, the Hammal Maritime Defence Force (HMDF), carried out coordinated attacks on two large Coast Guard boats, killing 13 personnel on the spot. The claim has not been independently verified.

The BLA also released a two-minute video on its official media channel showing armed men aboard a boat. The group identified them as members of the HMDF and claimed they used a vessel equipped with modern weapons to target two Pakistani Coast Guard boats patrolling waters off Jiwani, The Balochistan Post reported.

According to the statement, the HMDF was established to advance what the group describes as its campaign to defend Balochistan’s coastline and obstruct the maritime operations of Pakistani forces.

Jeeyand Baloch said the unit was formally announced on April 13, 2026, as part of the BLA’s broader strategy to expand its separatist campaign and target maritime assets. The group described the Jiwani operation as the HMDF’s second mission against the Pakistan Coast Guard.

Earlier in April, the BLA had claimed that three Pakistani naval personnel were killed in what it described as its first maritime operation in the Jiwani area. The group had announced the formation of its naval wing around the same time.

Footage released by the BLA’s media wing, Hakkal, and circulated on social media showed four masked fighters approaching the sea before boarding a speedboat. The video then showed the boat moving towards a vessel identified by the group as a Pakistan Coast Guard boat, followed by gunfire.

In its statement, the BLA warned Pakistani forces that its operations would no longer be confined to mountainous areas and cities, claiming it had developed the capability to target maritime assets and installations.

The group said its campaign would continue until what it described as the withdrawal of Pakistani forces and the establishment of an independent Baloch state.
