The Maithili edition of ‘Shri Navdurga Saptashati’, written by Dr R.K. Mishra, was released in Ranchi by his wife, Anandmukhi Mishra, and the book’s co-author, Munita Mishra. The publication fulfils Dr Mishra’s wish to make the religious text, originally written in Hindi, available to Maithili-speaking readers.
Speaking at the release ceremony, Munita Mishra said Dr R.K. Mishra, her father-in-law, had begun work on the book but could not complete the publication due to his sudden demise. He had previously written ‘Shri Navdurga Saptashati’ in Hindi and had a strong desire to see it translated into Maithili. As co-author, she took responsibility for bringing his vision to fruition.
The book contains 35 chapters covering various aspects of the worship and glory of Goddess Durga. Its contents include all 13 chapters of the Durga Saptashati, the glory of Navdurga, Ashtottar Shatnaam, Mahakilak Mantra, Jai Mangala Aarti, Devi Sukta, Prakriti Rahasya, Leela Rahasya, Murti Rahasya, prayers for forgiveness and aarti, along with other devotional hymns.
Dr Mishra had retired as Director of Planning at Birsa Agricultural University and later served as an agricultural adviser to the Jharkhand government. After retirement, he authored 13 books on agricultural development in Bihar and Jharkhand and published 21 technical articles, reflecting his contributions to the agricultural sector alongside his religious and literary interests.
Munita Mishra said the book was published with the support of Pankaj Mishra and Harsh of Computer Point, Ranchi.
Senior journalists Shafique Ansari, Omranjan Malviya, Amit Jha, Shashwat Jha, Ghanshyam Thakur, Awadh Jha, Divya Jha, Arun Singh, Rahul Kumar Thakur and Stuti were among those present at the event, along with several family members.
