Deoghar police arrested two men on October 10 on suspicion of involvement in cyber fraud after conducting a raid in the Patharadda police outpost area. Three mobile phones and three SIM cards were seized during the operation.

The raid was conducted by a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kailash Prasad Mahto, acting on the directions of Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar.

The accused have been identified as Dhananjay Yadav, 21, and Sanjay Yadav, 24. Both are sons of Falguni Yadav and residents of Jara village under Sarwan police station limits.

According to police, the accused allegedly targeted people by impersonating customer care representatives of platforms and services such as Flipkart, Amazon Pay, Google Pay, PhonePe and Airtel Payments Bank.

Investigators said the suspects allegedly lured victims with cashback offers and circulated malicious Android application package (APK) files disguised as applications related to the PM-Kisan scheme, electricity bills and RTO challans. Such files can be used to gain unauthorised access to a victim’s mobile phone or compromise personal information.

Police also alleged that the accused posed as representatives of Airtel Payments Bank to deceive customers.

A preliminary examination of the seized devices indicated suspected involvement in cyber fraud. Technical analysis further revealed that complaints of cyber fraud had been registered in several states against mobile numbers and IMEI numbers associated with the seized devices.

The operation was carried out by Patharadda police outpost in-charge Motiram Devgam and his team.

Police are examining the digital evidence to establish the extent of the alleged activities and determine whether the accused were linked to other reported cyber fraud cases.
