The Gumla district administration has directed officials and contractors to complete delayed drinking water supply projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission by December 2026, stressing the need to accelerate construction and remove implementation bottlenecks.
The directive was issued at a review meeting chaired by Deputy Development Commissioner Animesh Ranjan in his office. Officials from the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division, Gumla, concerned engineers and contractors attended the meeting.
The review was conducted in light of the directions issued at a meeting chaired by the Jharkhand Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation on October 5, 2026, to assess the progress of ongoing and delayed projects.
Ranjan instructed the officials and contractors concerned to prioritise pending work and take the necessary steps to meet the December deadline. He also called for better coordination among departments to resolve obstacles affecting project implementation.
Engineers and contractors asked to speed up work
During the meeting, officials discussed implementation-related challenges with representatives of the electricity department, the National Highways Authority of India, the National Highways Division and the Mechanical Division.
The Deputy Development Commissioner directed the concerned engineers to conduct regular site inspections, monitor project progress and review contractors’ performance. Contractors were instructed to ensure adequate manpower, construction materials and equipment at work sites so that pending work could be completed without further delay.
The meeting also emphasised interdepartmental coordination and the submission of project-wise progress reports to facilitate regular monitoring and timely intervention wherever required.
Contractor’s absence draws criticism
The administration expressed displeasure over the absence of contractor Abhishek Solar from the meeting and directed him to attend the next review meeting without fail.
The Drinking Water and Sanitation Division, Gumla, will continue to monitor the progress of the projects and take necessary steps to ensure that outstanding work is completed within the prescribed timeframe.
The administration reiterated that officials and contractors must avoid delays and work towards achieving the Jal Jeevan Mission’s objective of providing regular and reliable drinking water supplies to rural areas.
