Ranchi, October 10: Bhojpuri cinema is often associated with suggestive songs and double-meaning dialogues, but the film Bodh offers a different perspective through its storytelling and relatable characters. The film was screened on Saturday at JD Hi Street Mall in Ranchi as part of the Jagran Film Festival.
Written, produced and directed by young Patna-based filmmaker Prashant Ranjan, Bodh is set against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic. The film captures different aspects of life in Bihar, from urban settings to village life, food habits, college campuses and the world of the media.
One of the film’s distinguishing features is its reliance on storytelling rather than vulgar songs or explicit scenes. Rooted in the local environment, it follows characters whose experiences reflect everyday life, relationships and familiar social realities. Several scenes offer audiences glimpses of situations and emotions they may recognise from their own lives.
The character of Professor Kailash portrays a father caught between discipline, responsibilities and family relationships. Meanwhile, the characters Rohit-1 and Rohit-2 bring out the innocence of childhood, the joy of small moments and the desire for freedom. Through these characters, the film explores family bonds, a sense of responsibility and the pain of being separated from loved ones.
Shot entirely in Bihar with local artists, a substantial portion of Bodh was filmed in the state capital, Patna. Made without big stars or an elaborate cast, the film seeks to connect with audiences through its narrative and natural performances.
The screening at the Jagran Film Festival gave Ranchi audiences an opportunity to experience a Bhojpuri film that moves beyond familiar stereotypes and places greater emphasis on its characters, relationships and the realities of everyday life.
